A blast from the past

Interpretive signage project in remote South Australia

elevenacross was engaged to design and manage the production and delivery of interpretive signage for Maralinga Tours in the remote north-west of South Australia. A fascinating and sometimes confronting project, we delved into the history of this unique place and produced eight informative pieces detailing this massive engineering feat, and the lifestyles of the people who lived and worked here.

Working with historical images, sometimes of low quality and size, we integrated words and pictures to tell this fascinating story. Special consideration was given to the construction of the signage as in some areas the soil must not be overturned due to possible radioactive contamination, and they also needed to be extremely robust due to the local camels using them to scratch their backs!
